Who goes to Lourdes with the Dublin Pilgrimage?
The simple answer to this question is: Anyone who wants to!
We have a group of about 500 people who travel each year, and each
year more and more people come along, enjoy and start coming
regularly. The ages range from 17 to 85, with everyone being given a
job suitable to their abilities and talents.
In general, the helpers are made up of people from the Dublin City
area, but we have quite a few from the rest of Ireland, and even
beyond. These days, people will usually hear about the pilgrimage
from their schools, and several schools have official groups,
including:
- Belvedere College SJ,
- Muckross,
- Gonzaga College SJ,
- Mount Anville,
- St Michael's College,
- Holy Child Killiney,
- Loreto, Bray
- Loreto, St Stephen's Green,
- Clongowes Wood College SJ,
- Blackrock College,
- The Teresian School,
- Ard Scoil Ris.
Others will travel as part of the Diocesan Volunteer Corps, a youth
group based in Dublin. Those who enjoy themselves will usually come
back year after year, and find themselves part of a large group who
work together to help out those less fortunate.
