Accueil Notre Dame
The Accueil Notre Dame is our nerve centre whilst in Lourdes, as
it's where our Sick Pilgrims stay. It's a bright, modern, airy
building, providing a good standard of accomodation for the people
we care for.
For many years our Sick Pilgrims were housed in the Old Accueil
Notre Dame, near the Underground Basilica. This building was no
longer suitable for people who required proper care, so the Lourdes
Authorities built the "New Accueil", on the other side of the river.
The transition was difficult, as we'd developed ways of working
around the Old Accueil's limitations, but the standard of
accomodation was so superior we could only be happy to change.
The Accueil has a range of rooms, from singles to 6-bedded ones,
arranged around central spaces, with a refectory on each floor for
guests to dine in. Each room has it's own facilities, with the
shower separate to the toilet, while the bigger rooms have 2 of
each. Each room also has a window, full storage space and a table
& chairs.
Along with good facilities for our Sick Pilgrims, the helpers are
catered for well too, with several offices and communal areas
available. Catering is organised by a superb group of helpers on the
ground floor in a café-style setting.
To get a better idea of what the Accueil Notre Dame is like, take
the guided photographic tour, which starts here.
